Introduction

Hi everyone. I just want to put some general information about the website out there. It is still under construction, and we will be adding audio and pictures. So if anyone has anything they want to contribute, let us know. With the help from Clair, Chris Miller, and P.G. Holyfield, we are one step closer to setting up a permanent charity for LMS in Joe’s name.

I thank my tech army who worked together like crazy this weekend to get this up and running.

The donation button is linked to a completely seperate bank account dedicated for Joe. I set this up away from any other accounts so it will be protected and uninvolved in any legal things that may come to pass. We can use these funds to help his family with anything they may have coming up, and then I have been talking to the bank for help with how to roll the remainder over into CD’s and other high interest accounts.

I am calling several cancer research facilities and am hoping to find one specifically conducting research on LMS. Once I track one down I am hoping to speak with the director and work out how this donation site can help fund their research. And I know Mike would like to give some back to Hospice.

And lastly, I am hunting down how to get some custom armbands made at the lowest price to help raise money. Brad Bowyer has been helping me look around for these, and I also contacted Geeklabel to see if they have some connections with wholesalers.

Clair and I are working on all the paperwork to make this site a charity so there will be no tax stuff to deal with. If anyone knows a quicker way to get this rolling, please let me know.

This is such a horrible situation to deal with, but I hope you will join me into turning something so bad into something positive.

P.S. And I was able, by some miracle, to pull off getting Teller of Penn and Teller on the phone with Joe last night. I understand that was a wonderful surprise and put a smile on his sweet face.

I will post more later when I get things together.

Leann

Great work on this, and the Penn and Teller miracle was amazing. We should all always remember Joe. I never met him, but I wish I had. His warmth and generosity showed.

You guys are frackin’ Angels. The amount of work that has been done on this site for Joe is amazing and everyone of you should be proud of yourself

God knows I don’t really have the words to say what I want about this whole situation but thankfully someone has taken another good step towards making this a whole lot better

We are all working hard to make this site mean something for those who suffer this terrible disease. Please spread the word and contribute where you can.

I’ve created a link over at Deadpan.
My hat is off to you and your mini-geek army. . . . It’s not always easy to continue seeking out and creating positives.

Oh, I’m so glad that someone is doing this! To hopefully help with the bracelets, I know an organization that had some made two years ago - I’ve put an email into the organizer, and will hopefully have a lead for you soon. I’ll pass it along as soon as I hear back from her.

Once this is all set up, I’ve got an idea for a fundraiser. How about a Podcastathon, or Podathon? Recruit as many podcasters as possible. Choose a specific date and have each podcast record a special show to be posted on that date with a special appeal for donations, plus links to this site in their show notes, etc.

This sort of thing is done on radio stations every year, I think for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Foundation?

Of course there would have to be a list of all participating podcasts on this site in preparation.

On of J C Hutchins’ Beta Clones has set this up, so fo you cannot afford to give money(I’ve given what I could), you can help treat/cure cancer by giving up sparce processor cycles. I’m finishing my last bit of stuff from seti@home to make room for this.

I am so sorry for the loss of Joe.

I am a Leiomyosarcoma survivor of almost 3 years, and I wanted to let you know that there is an online petition for Leiomyosarcoma awareness. You can go to Leora’s Legacy on MySpace at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=153776848 and Leora’s mother is trying to raise awareness. It would be a wonderful tribute to Joe, and others with this horrible disease.

You can also go to Leiomyosarcoma.net and order bracelets to raise awareness.

I have been reading about Joe the last few weeks, and it warms my heart to know that he had so many people that loved and supported him!

Hey there Dyann, I have been in touch with Jeri, Leora’s mom, over the past few days. I am working with her on her efforts. :)

I will be posting a link to the petition and releasing a MP3 about it also.

    Thank you!
