He came up to me and another of my friends and asked if we would be his friend. It started a lifelong friendship. Joe taught me to juggle and even got me to do the "Chicken Dance" in front of thousands when he performed in the Gamma Phi Circus. He was a groomsman at my wedding just seven months ago. He was a GREAT friend and will be soarly missed. Joe and I became friends in 6th grade. He came up to me and another of my friends and asked if we would be his friend. Through his various casts I felt I got to know him better then some of my face-to-face friends and I am deeply saddened by his passing. He was taken too soon from us, but I will honor him by remembering the joy he brought, his pinpoint wit and skill with one liners, his quiet dignity and kind nature. I raise a glass of root beer in your name Joe Murphy. You will live on in my heart, and those of all your family, friends and listeners, and in that way you will never truly leave us. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for number one, the creation of the memorial fund, and two, for the tremendous support and well wishes throughout this short, but horrible illness. I know that all your caring meant a tremendous deal to Joe. He's one of a kind, and yes it would be just like him to go on April 1st. I will share one funny story with you. When Joe was younger his mother would just shake her head and say, "that boy has no conmmon sense." One day that he proved her right was the day of his senior pictures. As he left the house his mom told him to go get his picture taken, and get a hair cut. Sooooo, that's exactually what he did-he had is picture taken and THEN he went and got his hair cut. Needless to say, his hair was not what his mom wanted for his senior pictures. And yes, he did at one time have a full head of hair! Thanks again for your prayers and thoughtfulness. Hi. One of the many lessons portrayed in the story is that as long as we remember someone, he is still with us. I can tell you that he has been missed since the day he went on medical leave. There is some irony to his passing on April 1st- I know he's getting a good chuckle out of it right now.
